Bleeding

So my boyfriend and I had sex for the first time (it was my first time having sex ever but not his) and he's considerably big (about 8 inches and 3-4 fingers wide). So I was a little worried about tearing and all of that but I've also been told that it's normal to bleed the first time if you've never used a tampon. I've used tampons before but I still ended up bleeding a little bit. Is that supposed to happen? Cause I'm really worried and don't know if I should be.
