What do you think about rape being put into media? (Movies, books, TV shows, etc)

I personally hate it and it triggers me so much. I kinda feel like having scenes like that in the media glamourizes it (in the same way they glamourize hating yourself, mental illness, etc). I feel like showing full on rape or attempted rape scenes are not needed. If they are telling something that is based on a true story, all you have to do is mention that it happened. I think thats as far as it should ever go. What do you think about it?

I'm not a fan of censorship, and I think rape scenes in film even graphically depicted can have artistic and/or political merit. What I don't like is when it's show just for the sake of being controversial or edgy.

I find as time goes on, the more graphic rape scenes become for financial gain, & the details & visuals cross a line, for me. There's a rape scene in "Last House on the Left" (TRIGGER I would not suggest looking this up) that literally made me vomit. Even now just thinking about it makes my skin crawl.

I don't see a problem with it if it is part of a story. People get shot and killed in movies and that could upset people. Should we not show that either? If you don't want to watch that kind of stuff then don't. If you think something is a trigger for you why put yourself in a situation that could upset you?

I think to insinuate something is or has happened is one thing, but graphic rape scenes are not entertainment. It disgusts me the way we've become so desensitized as a society. Nothing but shock value anymore. I despise it.

I think it's something we should openly talk about in life more. By showing rape on tv I hope that people will realise it's a wrong thing to and see the damage it can cause

I am lucky enough to have never been raped or sexually assaulted, but I feel like *some* story lines which involve those things can open up really great opportunities for public discourse and education. 
Unfortunately, I also feel like rape/domestic violence/sexual assault are used by lazy writers to add depth, shock value or edginess to their content. I think it is often unnecessary for a characters development, or for plot development.

I went to a theater one time a few years ago to see a movie. Little did I know it had an extremely graphic rape scene in it. Not implied rape, it actually showed rape. It was horrible. I had to get up and walk out crying. Part of the reason I don't watch many of the newer horror movies anymore. There's just way too much graphic sexual violence. It's not entertaining, it's disturbing.
