Why are people against 17 year olds dating older guy? ( 21-23

Age is just a number so why is it different if one is 17?

Because a grown man only has one thing in mind with a teenage girl and if you think everyone is wrong wait til you're older and see for yourself.

I feel like 3-4 years is the max gap for younger people. It's not uncommon for a freshman to date a senior. However, during the younger years there is so much development and milestones that people go through. A 25 year old that works and lives on their own should not be looking towards high schoolers for their relationship partners. It's having similar or equal experience in the world. As long as the basics are taken care of. How will that high schooler then learn how to pay/do things on their own without having to have done it on their own first? The elder of he two will likely be ready and wanting a child much sooner than the younger one will etc etc etc.

After the basics of living have been successfully learned, I couldn't care the age difference.

Because even though it isn't a huge age gap...you need to think of the ages you are at. You can't even buy a pack of cigarettes but he can go drink at bars, gamble etc. The ages you are both at are very 'selfish" ages....as my aunt would say lol. At this point in your life...it's all about you. You want what you want and you really don't care what anyone else thinks. You are starting to see yourself as an adult but in reality...you know nothing of adulthood.
Believe it or not...you are in two totally different areas even though you are still fairly close in age. A lot of people make it work, but a lot also have tons of issues along the way. That's just how I see it at least

A 25 year old will have a completly different mind set and maturity level than a 17 year old. Yes the 17 year old may be mature but will not be on the same level as a 25 year old. You have no lives your young years yet and learned the thing you have to learn on your own and being with someone whose older than you like that has already been down that road and wants to go forward aa 16/17 year old isn't going to know all that stuff. A grown ADULT should not be dating a teenager.

My parents were fine with me dating a 23 yr old when I was 16. But no sex was involved or anything. He turned out to be a douche. He never pushed me to do anything but he just wasn't the nicest person. So I dumped him. I will not allow my kid to date a grown guy when 16/17. 18+ maybe..

I met my husband when I was 17 and he was 22. We've been together for 5 1/2 years. Yes it was hard being in different age ranges but it worked out. I was more mature than most people my age though. It depends on the person. My husband is the best man I've ever known. Kind and respectful. Our relationship was genuine, and I never had that with multiple boyfriends of various ages I had previously.

Brain development is actually a lot different between a 17 & 23 year old, mainly in the prefrontal cortex; this is the part of the brain responsible for decision making. So, I'm inclined to say, no, age is not just a number.

From experience, my parents were okay with it, but still had hangups. The reason I stopped dating older men was simple: control. A lot of older men take advantage of the fact that teenage girls or very Young women aren't as experienced or aren't looking for commitment. They take advantage of the fact that we are okay with a lot of things that most older women aren't.

I was fed up with the control. The bossiness. Now I'm happily married to a man my age. Actually he's two weeks less. Lol!
