Lotus Birth

Brittany
I read this article about this woman who did a lotus birth for both of her children. A lotus birth is where the woman does not cut the umbilical cord. She leaves the baby attached to the placenta until it naturally fell off. She literally carried the placenta in a cooler bag until it detached after 6 days. She sprinkled the placenta with rock salt and rose petals to keep the placenta from stinking. I do not understand the point. I understand if you delay the cord being cut for a few minutes because it allows the blood supply to transfer to the baby. But keeping the placenta for 6 days was useless. Even animals chew the umbilical cord and eat the placenta shortly after their babies are born. What do you think?
