When to talk to your HR?

So I'm completely clueless about this, when do I talk to my HR about maternity leave and all that? I heard when you're about 30 weeks but then I also heard you should tell them right away. Does anyone know?

30 weeks?? Everyone will be able to tell right? If you just mean figuring out benefits, I would do it ASAP so you can plan your finances.

For talking to your boss, go in with a plan about your leave and how your work will be covered.

I would say it depends on your job. I pretare taxes and since I knew long hours and the first trimester would be really hard I figured I would tell my boss right away. Plus I typically can not take off during work ours during tax season so I had to tell him what was going on in order to make my appointments. I would say the same if you have a really physcial job or if there is any danger to you and your pregnancy. Other then that it should be on a need know basis. Tell them when you start to start planning your leave. Like babysitting needs and financial stuff.
