6 days old.. Umbilical cord gooey?

Baby girl went to the doctors yesterday and they put some nitrate of some sort on her umbilical cord to help dry is out as it was still pretty moist. Today it's very gooey.. Should I be concerned? He said that it doesn't hurt her and to continue washing it with warm water and soap and we go back next Friday to have it checked along with her weight..

Any advice?

No washing. Every diaper change clean around the base of the stump with an alcohol pad. Should help it to dry out and fall off. I'm surprised they said to wet it and even more surprised they said soap!

I was told no water or soap on it or it won't dry out properly and could get infected easier. My guys drank pretty bad for about 24 hours before it fell out but once off it was all normal.

Did they tell you to wash it before it got goey? Normally you're supposed to keep it dry

No they told me to use soap and water at the hospital.
