"Coming out" as atheist to husband?

Question

Has anyone else struggled with telling your partner(or family) that you no longer believe in god?

Husband and I met at church and were both Catholic when we got married but now that I'm an atheist I'm worried about how he will take it.  I'm also concerned about how it affects our plans for having a baby and how it will be raised.

Judging by what my Catholic friends tell me, being an atheist only makes you a "bad Catholic" and nothing else in the eyes of the church. 😂 
Jokes aside though - are you both still attending church regularly? Have you discussed how you would raise your child beforehand? Would you be willing to go along with certain Catholic traditions, even if the belief is not there, or do you not want the church to be a part of your and your child's life at all? Depending on how strongly you both feel about certain aspects, there may be room for compromise that you're both comfortable with.

Why not bring it up with him without saying how you feel and maybe play it by ear from there?

My husband was an atheist when we met and I eventually became one. I could not have a child with a believer. In fact I can't imagine even being with someone who is not an atheist.

Wow... I can't even imagine being in your situation! My husband and I are both Atheists, and I know if he came home one day and told me he went back to Catholicism I would honestly consider divorce.

So many couples easily go through life with vastly different beliefs, but it would be a huge deal breaker for me. Good luck!!!

With my Dad, no problem! My boyfriend? He's atheist too so we share the same "faith". My step-dad? He's atheist too. My mom? That was awfully funny. She was so mad that I grew up Roman Catholic and went to Catholic school and now I don't believe in God. She still gets annoyed when I mention it so I mention it on purpose now 😈

My husband & I are agnostic closer to atheism. I "came out" to my mom & sister they surprisingly took it very well. Relationships are about compromise. I would just talk to him he may surprise you.

Mee! Well, we're not married but yea. I did the whole church thing, its just not something I believe in my heart like they say I should. When I pray, I feel like I'm talking to myself in my head. My bf says "everything you have is because you were blessed".  ..Noo, I worked my ass off for everything I have. 
I do believe there is a God out there, but not the one he believes..

Bit by bit with all the detail around the questions and struggle over time will give him time to learn and understand the internal workings or a radically different you to the person you are behaving as if you are attending church. 
For us it would result in the relationship ending as we are very closely aligned in some things, and attitudes to values, people and life is one of them. Also we hold our views very, very strongly which leaves no space for tolerance of the (ignorant, gullible, cover for power, corruption and control) beliefs of the other parent, which is disrespectful. I wouldn't want my children to see me disrespect my partner.
