Buying for baby

So I'm still pretty early but I'm not a first time mom so I know all about being prepared. I decided that I wanted to start stocking up on things early so that we won't have any surprises but I was told that it was bad luck to buy things for the baby while pregnant. I'm not understanding am I suppose to wait and not be prepared? Has anyone else heard about the whole bad luck thing?
