Leaving child in car while Mom shops?

Question

Just curious how common this is? I witnessed 2 children in their car seats while the mom shopped inside a store for 30 minutes. Yes her car was parked outside with the windows cracked. That was her excuse for why this was acceptable.

I called the police to handle the situation as I didn't think it was wise for me to confront her being 9 months pregnant.

Just curious if anyone else thinks it's okay to leave their kids in the car. Is this common?

It's illegal here. If they catch you they take you to jail for child endangerment. They even did it to a woman who had a 17 year old girl in the car and the girl didn't want to go in. I thought that one was ridiculous, but at least the law does protect children.

It's common. But I snt believe it's right at all. I think it's selfish and lazy leaving ur children I  the car.

I've never witnessed this and I don't think it's ever okay to leave a baby alone in the car

Absolutely not ok smh!! People are so lazy and careless. I remember being in the grocery store parking lot and a toddler was swinging from the door, the alarm was going off. He was having a good ole time and people were just walking past looking. I called the cops and they came but I think she ran out an drove away before they got around to her. He could've really gotten hurt.

Good for you, for calling police. Totally not ok! I would have done the same thing! God forbid something happened to those kids....some people are so stupid!

I can understand why people are tempted to do it, shopping can be tricky with kids. But in my opinion it is NOT okay. There are far too many variables involved when you leave your kids alone in the car. Maybe at a certain age (like, teenagers) it's no biggie but otherwise you're not only leaving your children unsupervised, they're also in a public space where creeps can be and in a vehicle where things can go wrong.

I remember my mom leaving us kids in the car to run in somewhere (this was 10-20 years ago though) and once my younger brother managed to knock the car out of park and we rolled though the parking lot. Thank god we didn't hit anything or anyone, but it was terrifying.
