ParaGard IUD experiences and advice

Jodi
Hi, ladies! So about a year and a half ago, I decided to stop getting depo shots and switched to the Skyla IUD. It was pretty rough for the first month or 2, but I had stopped getting my period when I was receiving the depo injections and I liked that the IUD also stopped me from getting a regular monthly period. Things went really well and I loved the IUD up until about 6 months ago. Suddenly, I started getting my period again. I thought maybe it was a one time thing but I've gotten it at least once a month since then. My periods were really bad back before I started birth control several years ago, but I feel like now they've gotten just as bad again, if not worse. I get horrible cramps, acne breakouts, nausea, headaches and body aches... Basically every possible period symptom. Throughout the month, I also get random bleeding and painful cramping, and I feel extremely moody and sensitive almost all the time. I have clinical depression and severe anxiety disorder, so I'm sure that plays a big role, but it's gotten worse since I stopped taking birth control pills. I really liked how my body reacted to just regular birth control pills, but I had a hard time taking them on time. So now I'm thinking of trying the non-hormonal IUD, ParaGard I believe it's called. I think it might just be best if I'm not getting any added hormones, and maybe if I just let my periods go back to normal, they won't be so bad anymore. Plus I love the convenience of it, and I'm not playing on having kids anytime soon. The problem is, I've never been pregnant and I've heard it isn't recommended for anyone who hasn't had children before. Could anyone tell me why that is? And if you've tried a non-hormonal IUD, could you please tell me what your experience was like? What side effects did you have? How were your periods? I'd especially appreciate input from women who have mental health issues like me. Did it make them any worse/better? Any input at all would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm trying to decide between a non-hormonal IUD and birth control pills or patches. Not using birth control isn't really an option for my boyfriend and I right now as it is very important that I don't get pregant. We are so not ready for a baby. Please share your thoughts, and thanks in advance for any advice! 😊
