Hyphenated last names?

We aren't married and I don't know what to do about baby's last name. Mine is Troy, his is Gonzalez. Does she want to connect with Chilean roots or my roots or both and if so who's goes first? Any thoughts??

I hyphenated my daughters and plan on hyphenating this babies. I look at it as I have as much right to them having my last name as their dads. And my daughter actually loves having my name she doesn't use her dads since he isn't around. So she tells ppl it's grayson instead of Dorsey-Grayson

I gave my daughter both our last names & majorly regret it now! He hasn't been around since she was a newborn & shes 4 now. I always use just my last name for her but it's a hassle with legal documents like the doctors office or now that she's starting school.

I wasn't married with my first, we hyphenated her last name and I wish I never did. For paper work when it comes to school or dr offices it just makes things complicated. Some places only use the first name others have to have both, ugh it's been a nightmare.

Both my daughters have their father's last names (never married) I honestly never thought about giving them mine but at the end of the day its a personal decision

Mines okay with baby taking my last name since we aren't married but he's also okay with baby taking his last name so that's what I'm going to do. If we break up, oh well. Doesn't change who the dad is and I don't care lol

Hyphenated last names are great. Especially since yours aren't both long ones. If you're both okay with doing it then good! Having just the dad's last name is an old fashioned,  sexist tradition.

I have a hyphenated last name and I HATE it!! My husbands last name is and when we got married they made me take both his! I cried and it's such a pain in the ass! When we had our daughter we weren't married and I never thought twice about her not taking his last name! Ppl can say oh you can change it later and blah blah blah but it costs money (125.00) here in Ohio and is just a pain! In my opinion no matter what our relationship is he's still my daughters father whether him and I were together or not. Luckily we ended up getting married so now we all have the same last name but I didn't give her both his last names only his first which is what we all go by other than with legal stuff like insurance taxes work and stuff like that.

I wasn't married when my son was born 10 years ago and I wanted to include my last name but didn't want to deal with the hastle of a hyphenated last name ( dr.offices, schools) so I hyphenated his middle name. So my sons name is 
Nathan Isaac-Dehesa Stutz but goes by Nathan Stutz
It works great and I'm so glad I did it... In fact when We finally got married a couple years ago my husband and I hyphenated our middle names
