Randomly bleeding, help!!!!

I got on the patch this past August and have been on it since. About 2 weeks ago I took my patch off, fell asleep and was a little over a day late to put it back on. This past Sunday, my boyfriend and I have pretty rough/ vigorous sex.. Since then I've been having this brown blood like discharge and some blood here and there. It hasn't stopped since and I'm starting to bleed. Is this my period? What does this heavy brown discharge mean??
