Insurance Covers Breast Pumps ?

Parents ! I recently was informed some insurance plans covers breast pumps. I called today and confirmed. My insurance plan thru Blue Cross/Blue Shield covers 1 Brest pump per pregnancy. They have their recommended providers but in order to get one, they informed me to ask my OB for a prescription and their recommendation. You have to pay for the breast pump out of pocket but send in your receipt, your prescription and a claim form (you can get this on their website) and you should be reimbursed ! I am planning on attempting to breast feed and trying to save money where I can. So getting a breast pump as medical equipment thru my insurance is a bonus ! This was news to me and I hope it helps some of you to investigate into your plans 🙌🏼

I had to call my insurance company with my first and they sent me one in the mail. They even rush delivered it to me because I went into labor 3 weeks early.  I had two to choose from and they were somewhere between $200 and $300 in the store!!!

Last pregnancy I had to wait to 28 weeks to call again and order one. I didn't need to pay for it first and get reimbursed. Must depend on insurance. Didn't take long to deliver it, my ob also had to write a prescription for the one I chose.

Women's Healthcare Reform requires ALL insurances (American insurances-not sure about Euro) to give mothers a breast pump from an in network provider. You'll either get a 6 month rental free for a hospital grade pump or you'll be given, free, a commercial grade (typically Modela PumpnStyle) one per pregnancy. I believe you do have to be within 4-6 weeks of your due date. Call your customer service people for your insurance for in network providers in your area.
