What's more important?

Young family,first baby due November. Money isn't an issue at the moment,but OH is taking a new job,an extra 12k a year but shift so some nights/mornings we won't see him,it'll work out that we will not see him for a few days at a time

I Think the extra 12k a year is worth it. If you don't need the extra money put it I. A seperate account. You can use it for a college fund...family vacation...savings for a new house

I didn't vote b/c I think it's a very personal and situation dependent decision.

I'd suggest asking yourself:
Is he happier at the new job? 
Is the new money "nice" or do you really "need" it? 
Will you spend more money making up for having less help at home?

My hubby just switched to a new position within his company. Same pay, different work. Long term, probably more earning potential. Short term, perhaps a smaller raise this year than if he'd stayed put. It will mean less travel, but also less flexibility to work from home.

There was no wrong decision. In the end, the potential to be happier by getting to try new things plus the long term potential won him over (and me).

In contrast, I've decided to take an extended leave from my PhD program starting immediately. It means 5 months without my research assistant stipend and the cut in pay will be difficult for us, but ethically, it's the right thing to do. I'm ok overall, but it's been a tough 1st trimester and even if I feel better soon, I can't keep up the pace that the research demands.

Decisions like this are not easy. In the end, you work with the information you have amd do what you think is best. At least then you'll have no regrets.

I see no problems in it. Good communication during these few days is key and it will make seeing him that much better knowing he is doing what he can to support his family

My husband travels for work and sometimes is gone for a week at a time and I have a 3 year old and one on the way...it sucks for everyone but you do what you have to do.
