bad news about baby's heart
hey, so I just got back from the doctors office, the pediatric cardiologist did the echo, so there is a thing in a baby's heart called a PDA that is used to bi pass the lungs while in utero, since the baby isn't using them, after the baby is born this hole closes and the aorta does the job of exchange between the heart and lungs the baby's aortic arch is to small to do its job, so the baby will need heart surgery, once he is born they can give him medicine to keep the PDA open to bi pass the lungs until he is big enough for heart surgery, but it will have to be done in the first few days of life, he also has a second hole which should not exists between the top two chambers of the heart, this would also compromise him, so he would need to have surgery to close this hole, depending on his size and condition will depend on if they do two separate heart surgeries or both surgeries at the same time, the right side of his heart is enlarged because the aortic arch is to small which usually doesn't happen until the third trimester but it is already enlarged now, the doctor is taking the echo to a team of surgeons and doctors at rush university for review then the doctor will have me get one more fetal echo in 3 weeks to be 100% certain and decide the severity, then I will have to go to rush university downtown and meet the surgeons. and I will more than likely have to deliver there so the baby is in the right place for surgery. this has been a long journey, just praying for our little guy.
