Hey guys Im V. I'm a licensed nail tech and I thought I'd post advice as well as couple tips about getting your nails done. I've seen a lot of horror stories on here and I'd like to educate you guys so you'll stay healthy! So I'll start off with the basics.

How to pick a nail salon:

•Google nail salons near your area and look at their reviews. Look out for comments about customer service and salon cleanliness.

•Look at their website/facebook page for pictures of the salon and pictures of their work. Look at their menu. If their prices seem ridiculous the service will be too. You get what you pay for.

• When you decide on a salon notice how they greet/treat you. Many salons treat their customers like they're running an assembly line!

• While you wait look around. Make sure there isn't nail dust all over. Make sure things new files are used on each person and tables, spa chairs, pedicure tubs are getting disinfected after each client.

🚨SALON RED FLAGS🚨

• Charging ridiculously low prices

•There is dust/dirt everywhere

•Salon is over crowded but they still check you in (this is if you're a walk in)

•There is an overwhelming smell of fumes (salons should be well ventilated, this doesn't mean an open window, it means they actually have a ventilation system installed)

•It's a weekend and they don't have people whatsoever ( I get the most clients during the weekend this might be different depending on where you live, weather,time of the year etc. but I thought I'd add it in)

• Salon looks run down ( dirty floors or windows, chairs are mismatched or broken, equipment is broken etc)

•Check out how people are coming in and leaving if you can

•Garbage bins should be covered (this is a fire hazard, all the materials we use are extremely flammable)

•Nail techs are not using gloves

•Check out their bathroom

•Nail polishes look old, there is a lack of them

•Nail techs are not disinfecting/using different implements after each client

If for whatever reason you feel uncomfortable, LEAVE! Do not even hesitate, your health is important! People have lost limbs due to salon mishaps. I myself have gotten infections from salons. Some of these things seem silly and pointless but when you're actually looking around you'll notice things you didn't before.
