Are Humidifiers Safe?

Question

I originally was planning to buy a humidifier for my baby's nursery due to all the benefits it has, but a friend of mine told me it was bad, that it wasn't as convenient. Is it safe to have one, or does it affect the baby in the long run?

Where did your friend even hear that it's bad? 
It's actually good. My baby is able to breathe better and I even stopped getting bloody noses during winter. I put a few drops of lavander essential  oil to help my baby sleep.

They are safe BUT only if you clean it religiously. Mold builds up very quickly.

Ive bought a couple and found if they weren't cleaned every 2 days there would lots of mold starting to grow in them. It was more of a hassle then anything.

Humidifiers bring moist to dry air which helps baby breath better. Adults can use one also. I don't recommend using it everyday, but I would definitely invest in one. I do think it should be cleaned often because mold can form. Just like any other product that is used to create moisture. I wonder what your friends reason was for saying its bad. Feeling unsure? Ask your dr.
