Hydronephrosis rant
Have to share this experience because it was so stressful and I hope my post can help other avoid what I just went through.
Yesterday i woke up around 6am with horrible mid back pain, isolated to my right side. Of course my first thought was, oh joys of pregnancy, probably just gas or something. After a few attempts I finally just for out of bed and went on with my day which included a 9am glucose test.
During the hour wait of my test, my back pain increased in intensity, couldn't sit, lean back, lay down. It was awful. I knew something was wrong but this point and called my OB.
My OB examines me and determines I may have a kidney stone (yay) and sends me immediately for an ultrasound of the kidney and bladder. Low and behold, I had severe hydronephrosis of the right kidney which was causing my pain 😖
I'm then sent to a urologist to determine the cause. By this time it's now 2:30 and I'm still seething in pain. I finally see the specialist and he tells me that "someone women can't handle the pains of pregnancy" and it's probably just muscle pains because there is no presence of blood in my urine. I nearly ripped his face off.
His redeeming quality was when he had me lay on my left side and pushed on my belly a few different ways. Diagnosis: my baby's big head was crushing my right ureter causing urine to back up into my kidney!
A quick Google search determined that this is fairly common in pregnancy yet I couldn't find any mention of it on any baby app that I have. My advice, if you start feeling isolated right side pain, lay on your left side and try to coax the baby to flip. My little guy likes to hang out on the right side of my belly so we're gonna have to work on it!
Hope no one else has to go through this!
