Aiding Home Country First

I'm honestly not sure what others will think of this, but I need to ask.  America spends a huge amount of money on foreign aide and wars.  The wars seem like they will never end.  A lot of people in other countries do not want American aid and/or are not grateful for the enormous financial and human cost that Americans pay.  So my question is this.  Why doesn't the US stop sending so many soldiers and foreign aid to countries that really don't care for Americans?  That money could be saved for health care, the poor in the US, paid maternity leave, unemployment, and protection within the US borders.  Individual charities could still send out aid to other countries.  The military could get involved to direct US threats and stop participating in wars that are not direct threats.  Leave those countries to fight their own wars and help only if specifically asked by an ally/ or people who are truly defenseless.
