Is religion/faith inherently adult

Is being of faith and or religious only a thing of adults, truly? Sure kids go to church with their parents and are taught in Sunday schools etc, but do they really understand it, are they capable of deciding hey yea, I believe (in) this? Or is it purely an adult/mature decision and process that doesn't truly happen until much older? Do kids really understand what they're saying, hearing?
