I just find this really judgmental as I can see where she is coming from but I also want to say that everyone's relationship is different. I know my boyfriend pays for everything and I have "no choice" it was the way he was brought up and he believes he should // and also wants to pay. When we first started dating I felt bad you know, I wished as a student and working full time to pay for my car to be on the road and for my holiday that I should pay my way. But after 8 months of being with my SO I've realised that it's just his way and he wants to treat me and wants to look after me, and he does that by paying for food and things I like. I return the favour by driving to him and cooking him food, what's all your opinions?

I think a woman should be able to buy her boyfriend a sandwich without being scolded by a waitress. It's none of that waitresses business, quite frankly.

I think that woman was talking about women who EXPECT the men to pay for everything. Alot of relationships, the men want to pay. And that's fine. The problem is with women who feel entitled to that treatment.

My boyfriend and I take turns paying for meals, going on dates and so forth. A man deserves to be taken care of too. I appreciate everything my man does for me so I return the favor just like he does.

The cashier should have kept her mouth shut. My oppinion is people should mind their own business. And like another post said, it's one thing to allow your partner to pay, it's another to expect it. Everyone's relationship dynamics are different. What works for some, might not for others. When I was dating my now husband, he always paid. It was just the way he was raised. And after being in an abusive relationship, it was nice actually, to be shown he appreciated me, and wanted to protect and provide. It's was a good change from being with somone who just took and took all the time. Idk, but everyone should just do what works for them, and let everyone else do the same.

You know your relationship and she knows her's.  Bottom line is there is nothing wrong with a woman paying for a date, and there is nothing wrong with the guy always paying. It's whatever works, so long as it's okay with both parties. My husband and I share all the money, but I'm in charge of finances and he doesn't have a debit card. So whenever we go out we pay with the card, and it "looks" like I'm always paying. Sometimes he'll have the card on him at the time and I'll joke and say "you can pay this one".

My opinion is that, yes, every relationship is different and you do you. That doesn't mean the waitress shouldn't have kept her opinion to herself. Totally not her place.

I agree with her. My husband pod for everything for dating up until we got a joint account when we started living together. It's one thing to happily accept that your date prefers to pay for everything and allows them to, it's an entirely different thing to expect to get everything paid to and be upset when he doesn't pay.

I'd pay for mine and my husbands sandwiches if we didn't have joint accounts. It was very rude of the cashier to comment.

I do think the post is awfully judgmental. I think you should do whatever works best in your relationship. In mine, my husband and I do participate in "gender roles". He holds doors open for me, he pumps gas, he takes out the trash, he pays, etc. On the other hand, I clean, I make dinner (most of the time), etc. It's just how we were raised. If people want to do things differently then go for it, do what works.

My boyfriend typically pays but if I have money and I was something specific I pay for us. Or if I have money and he just paid all the bills then I pay.
