If you dilate gradually (weeks before due date) is labor easier?

Question

It seems like if you're say 2cm @ 35 weeks & then go to 3-4 @ 38 weeks or whatever, it seems like labor would be easier cause your body has already done some of the work gradually. I was kinda bummed that my cervix was still "long & closed" at 36 weeks :(

My sister was 5 cm with her first at 27 weeks and her daugter was born at 33 weeks and they had to use forceps after 22 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing. With her son she was 3cm at 22 weeks and she was in labor for 12 hours and pushed for 3 during that 12 hours his heart rate went down to 60bpm for a while. I don't believe dilating weeks before you go into labor helps I think it just depends on your body and the baby.

Mine is still very much closed at 36 weeks too and I'm kinda feeling like it's not gonna be until the very end when I start dilating

My mother in law was 4 cm dilated from 38 weeks to 41 weeks with her second u tik they decided to induce her. She did t without an epidural and said it was insanely painful and long compared to her first labor. So I think it doesn't really matter.
With my first, I wasn't dilated at all at my appointment a week before my due date. Then I went into my appointment on my due date at 130 pm and they told me I was 4 cm dilated. I had my baby at 5:55 pm.
