Help! Spin class advice?

I tried yesterday, but those seats put me in agony. I have bruises from it and the instructor even put it in the "proper placement".
Is it just me? I'm going in 15 minutes early to talk with him about it, but any experienced spinners have advice for me? I tend to have a bony butt (even with being overweight) and I REALLY want to make this work since it's one of the only classes that work with my work schedule.
I really want to be fitter and I realize that it'll require some discomfort, but I didn't think agony would be included where it still aches quite a lot when I sit today from just 15 minutes in that class.
