Dealing with a travelling SO

I've always wanted to travel for my career ever since I was little, I've always loved travelling. But I also never wanted to be in a "long distance" (long distance for me meaning being away more than being at home) relationship so when i got together with my boyfriend i told him that from the start.

So i gave that dream up. He wants to be a film maker and says he'll have to travel all the time. So I'm like well then I want to travel too. My dream job is either a doctor or a physician assistant so i looked up travelling doctors and PAs and found a lot of opportunities. So i told my SO that that's what i want to do, we can both travel then since we both want to for our careers, who needs a family.

Well now that the tables are turned and he's not the only one travelling leaving me at home and I want to travel for my career too he's not happy about it. (I think what got him is when i said "who needs a family" because we both want kids eventually). He just thinks that him travelling for his career automatically means I'M going to be the one to change my travelling career to fit the needs of a future family instead of us meeting halfway (him getting film jobs close to home, working under a company as an editor or writer so he doesnt have to travel, and me only taking contracts close to home, etc). He says he wants to settle down and have a family, but isn't willing to put a family over his career if/when the time comes whereas im willing to meet in the middle for the sake of having a family. As much as i want to be supportive in him, i can't stand the thought of being neglected in the future (along with the kids being neglected by their father) just so he can chase his dream until who knows when.
