How do you know when baby is done?

My daughter is 3 mons now. Everyone always told me you will know when the baby is done nursing by looking at their cues, or theyll simply pull off the breast when done...mine does neither of those things! Hasnt for 3 months. I know shes getting plenty & growing just fine, but if possible id like to shorten her feeding....she will stay on the boob all day if i let her! Anyone have any suggestions?

There's nutritive sucking and non nutritive sucking. When they initially latch, they'll go fast and then it'll slow to deeper, more rhythmic sucking. Listen closely to the "cuh" "cuh" sound. That's nutritive sucking. Once that kind of sucking slows down or you don't hear that sound anymore, they're done, usually they'll just hang on and make these chipmunk/squirrelly fast sucks on/off-that's more non nutritive and you can gently pop them off with your finger to break the suction. Burp them and then offer the second breast. You'll know one breast will be"done" (there is always milk-you're never truly empty) when it feels much softer.

Listen closely to the sounds they make. If you don't hear them swallowing any milk they are done. Burp baby and offer other side. Do the same for other side. I usually let him comfort nurse a bit so I know then I pull him off if he's not eating. Once they get used to that they should start to do it on their own.

Another way I can tell my son is done eating are by his hands...at first they are aggressively on the breast then eventually fall to his side...if I grab his hand and it just falls I know he's done. Then I burp him and offer the other side to make sure he's good and full which also ensures a longer nap!

She's comfort nursing. Put her on a schedule. Since she's 3 months she should only be nursing every 3-4 hours. Babies will act hungry because they have a natural rooting instinct. But comfort nursing isn't really the best because they don't get as many nutrients it'll be tough to get her on a schedule, but when she starts to fuss even when you know she's full try comforting her in other ways, rocking, singing too, cuddling, my little one loves being in her boba wrap. Those kind of things.

Following. Same issue with my 3 week old. He always acts like he's still hungry no matter how much he drinks. After an hour of nursing, my nipples are done and I have to cut him off. He drinks so slow too.
