Think kids can feel if their parents resent them?

I feel kids are way smarter than we give them credit for. Because they are so innocent I think they can pick up on certain emotions/situations faster than adults can. I'm asking because I'm having a debate right now with someone who believes kids are naive and too young to understand.

If there is one thing children understand, it is emotions. I don't think they actually understand the idea of resentment, but they will feel if a parent is behaving in a way that shows resentment. In other words, for example, instead of responding to a child in a caring and loving way, the resentful parent might instead have an angry tone of voice or act like the child is unwanted. Although the parent is not outright saying how they feel, the child can feel that. In fact, before babies are even out of the womb they feel the mothers emotions.
