what not to eat while breastfeeding?

Hi' 
I'm here thinking if it's there any food that some of you don't eat during breastfeeding months? For example I have heard that it's not good to eat pork because that may cause diarrhea to the baby. (Don't know if it's true)

Honestly, I EBF my son, and currently EBF 4 mo old daughter, and never changed my diet. I tried to eat healthy (kinda), and I definitely drank more water, but otherwise, I don't put much thought in it! I may have an occasional glass of wine or beer, but make sure it's atleast 2 hours before I feed baby again (she sleeps all night, so I've had no issue). I have a cup of coffee every morning, and sometimes even a Coke!

My SIL took out dairy and several green vegetables from her diet, and was so paranoid about what she ate based on things she read, that she was miserable and quit breastfeeding after 6 months. She did this because she thought that's what you had to do.... not because it wasn't agreeing with baby.

If you notice something affecting baby, then by all means, cut it out.... otherwise don't stress too much over it!

It's pretty much trial and error. Every baby is different. I don't avoid eating anything and so far my son hasn't had a reaction to anything other than when I drank apple juice.

As long as your baby doesn't have any health problems, you can eat whatever you want. Be careful with certain herbs like mint and sage which can lower supply.

I've breastfed all three of my kids with no issue in regards to my diet. Avocado is awesome for breastfeeding and the good days are great for milk. I love green vegetables including broccoli and I've not noticed and issue there either.

I would say the pork one is a myth, and while it is safe to eat anything some babies react to certain foods - it can make them more windy, or give them reflux. So common foods to avoid in that case are dairy, chocolate, onion, garlic, capsicum, tomato, peas, and citrus.

Your doctor will be a better resource. I've never heard the thing about pork. Most food is okay unless your baby develops a sensitivity (such as you commonly see with milk), some medications are off limits, drugs, alcohol in moderation, etc.
