Days Past Ovulation???

Question

This may be a REALLY stupid question;

Why is pregnancy calculated using DPO?

If I have sex way before I'm ovulating, but I'm supposed to wait 10dpo to test, why can't I test sooner?

If I have sex when I'm NOT ovulating, what does that have to do with days past ovulation? I really can't seem to understand lol.

You can get pregnant only when you are ovulating :)

You only have a few days window. As far as ovulation they say the egg is usually available for fertilization for 12-32 hours at most. If you don't get the egg in that window you can't get pregnant. Sperm can live in the vagina for up to 5 days if the conditions are right. So it helps to have sperm there waiting for the egg. Also you have to wait because even if the egg is fertilized within 24 hours it still has to implant and then will take a few days to start producing hcg so that a test will be positive.
