new to male infertility and disgruntled partner

We are happily unmarried and have been trying for 8 months. I made an appointment with my ob/gym and she strongly felt that I was not the problem. I have two children from a previous marriage that are 5 and 8 and I have no gynocological problems to speak of. She suggested that his sperm count be tested. I talked to him about it, gently, and it went over like a lead balloon. I am looking for suggestions, perhaps eastern medicine or herbal treatments, as somewhere to start.
