Cold sores?

Cold sores and herps? Are they the same thing? What even causes cold sores? They can be on the outer n inner part of the lip, so there passed by kissing? Or? Im so confused bc i read one thing then something else, so cold sores r herps? Someone please explain

Cold sores are herpes, but it's herpes type 1... which is oral herpes. Most people have it. Herpes type two is genital herpes. They're mostly the same, but type 1 herpes likes to hide out on the mouth (cold sores). Type 2 herpes is on the genitals (it's an STD). If you've ever had a cold sore in your life, then you have herpes type 1. It's very easy to transmit when a cold sore is present through something as simple as sharing a cup, chopstick, kissing a person who has a cold sore.

Yes, same virus but different strain. Can be passed through any mouth to mouth contact whether it be kissing or drinking from same water bottle- highly contagious.

Just wondering? If a child has a cold sore anywhere in the mount  then it means he/she has a herpes??  Thats scary..
