Can children who kill (not in self defense) be rehabilitated?

E.
I was watching the show "Deadly Women" on Investigation Discovery. It discussed a 10 year old girl who killed three of her peers by strangling them, not in self-defense but simply because she wanted to kill them and thought it was "fun." She served some time in a juvenile facility and then prison, can't remember how long, was released on parole and undertook a new identity to protect her anonymity and never re-offended. So, in a sense, she was rehabilitated. What are your thoughts?  Do you think children who commit evil and violent acts can be rehabilitated successfully? Do you think that children often don't understand the consequences of their actions during childhood and can repent in adulthood?
