Why induce?

Question

I see so many posts of ladies getting induced at 40 weeks plus some days.  I know sometimes it's medically necessary, but I thought they'd wait until 42 weeks to induce.  I'm 38 weeks, and just trying to prepare myself for what my doctor might suggest in the next couple weeks.  I don't feel signs of labor, and feel like she might not come on her own.  😯

Each doctor is different. My first doctor induced me at 40 weeks 3 days with my first. I then switched doctors when I was pregnant with my second cause the last one was a real B**** about some things. And he is my current doctor. He doesn't even discuss inducing until you are a week past your due date. He says so they can "bake a little longer" lol. Just since the DD is just an estimate. With my second he induced me at 41 weeks 3 days. Now I'm just waiting to see when number three is gonna show lol.

Getting induced now 39+4 past 2 pregnancies went passed due date my prev pooped..was scary my body won't go into labor so my doc and I decided induction was the best option for me

Depends on where you are in England they don't do it till 42 weeks I am 40+5 and it's driving me mental

My doctor will induce up to 6 days before my due date if I want to, but she doesn't like women to go anymore than 4 days over their due date. I was thinking about doing it but I've decided against it and see if my body can do it naturally :)

Kaiser's guideline (at least in Southern California) is to induce at 41 weeks. The benefits of being induced apparently outweigh the risks of carrying beyond 41 weeks. That gives me 16 days and counting to begin labor naturally - fingers crossed!!

If you don't have any medical issues most doctors won't schedule inducement until after 41 weeks. A lot of mom's are ready for the baby to be out so when they get the option they choose a little sooner rather than later. I have two blood clotting factors so they won't let me go past my due date but want me to go into labor as naturally as possible so are just keeping a close eye on me up until then!

Every doc has their own stance on it. For example, there are two OBGYN's in my office; one doctor will do elective induction at 39 weeks. The other will not until in between 41-42 weeks, and that's only due to the fact that after 42 weeks, infection risk runs higher.

I'll be 41w on Tuesday and my doctor hasn't even mentioned induction. I'm a FTM and I would love to labor naturally to have that experience. I think a lot of it depends on the weight of the baby, the status of the placenta and how much amniotic fluid you still have. I'm perfect on all three counts, so I guess she sees no reason to force labor. Shrug 🤷🏻‍♀️

My doctor will do it no sooner than a week before your due date. I was a week past mine. You'll probably be asked if you want to be induced and if you go a week past, I'd definitely consider it.

42 is kinda late. There's no evidence baby thrives after 41 weeks. The placenta gets old and doesn't work like before. Most of our obgyns go 41 max. Our midwives are a little more relaxed. It also depends on babes size.
