I've just been put on pretty strong antidepressants, staring today. I took one at 5pm, and went to bed at 11.30pm. As soon as I close my eyes I start dreaming, well images are flashing through my head. I'm aware that I'm awake, and I am tired. But the dreaming is keeping me from going into a deep sleep😰 surely the medication can't be doing this? It's now 1am and I'm exhausted.

Bless you Kayley I may well be wrong but it sounds like anxiety to me.  I get a similar thing at times when my anxiety is winning (!) you can't settle due to your mind racing and various scenarios come into your head.  
It could be a side effect of your medication and hopefully it should improve and go away.  Speak to your doctor but in the meantime when you go to sleep try to compartmentalise each item in your 'dream' and imagine putting it away into a box one by one.  This hopefully will let your mind rest and hopefully sleep. I hope you feel better soon .

Are you extremely sleep deprived? This happens to me when I have zero sleep. I start dreaming as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Antidepressants are no joke. They can seriously alter your emotions and brain. I'm not saying you don't need them but you can expect some serious side effects. Never stop taking an anti depressant on your own as they are meant to be weaned not stopped cold turkey.

Is best to take them in the morning. It takes about 1 to 4 weeks so your body can adjust to them and they will take affect. Give it time i felt like that ones i started using them. If its concerning you talk to your doctor, be honest at all times.

Frequently waking due to dreams you mean? Are you, by chance, on zoloft or a similar ssri? I ask because that's a common side effect.

Talk to your health care doctor. Please. My cousin was 18 years old he was put in AD and after 2 weeks commited suicide. We now have a lawsuit for wrongful death. There are certain doses for certain people and certain symptoms they don't tell you about that could possibly be fatal.
