Hyphenated last name?

My boyfriend and I are unmarried. I went my whole life hating that my mother and I did not have the same last name. Do you guys think I should hyphenate the baby's last name with my name and the fathers? If we do get married, we will drop my last name from the child's.

I am in the same situation and am hyphenation for baby's name. My mom never married my biological father, but she had sense to give me her last name so we matched. I don't think I can swing what she did, so I'm going to hyphenate and can change the name to however the baby wants later if they don't like it.

My boyfriend and I are not married. I actually contemplated the same exact thing as you. However, after deep thought, prayer, and talking with my family I decided the baby will have his last name. Although I am confident one day I will also have his last name, one thing I do know is he will
 not be a deadbeat father. He will be a great father to our child and as long as he does that regardless of our relationship I won't take that away from our child or him.

I didn't change my last name to my husband's when we married, but I didn't want to hyphenate our kids' names because of the hassle when filling out government forms with a crazy hyphenated name. So, we gave the kids his last name, and their first names are all named after my family members. Just do what works best for your family and what seems right to you!

You should! I wish my first two kids had my last name. I was trying to be fair when I gave them their fathers last (unmarried too) but 9 & 11 years later I still regret them not having my last name...

My daughter has her dads name. It was a split second decision and doesn't bother any of us. We've been together 10 years and are not married. If we get married, I'm still not taking his name so I guess it doesn't really matter.

My SO and I are married; however I never considered changing my last name nor would I want to. Before marriage we had agreed that our twins would have my last name, but now it only seems fair for us to hyphenate our last names.
