Positive for Strep B...
A little freaked out here...Went to my OB for a 10 week sono and I also left a urine sample. At the end of my appointment my doctor (who I trust) informed me that I tested positive for Strep B. He told me not to be alarmed and that 1/4 healthy women test positive for this. He mentioned that I would start antibiotics via IV once I was in labor to protect the baby from contracting it through his nose or mouth on the way out. He said it is not an STD and that it occurs naturally in the vagina. However, I've been reading all these posts about women having serious symptoms and infections due to this Strep B bacteria.
Is this something I somehow caused? Can I give it to my husband during sex? Is it curable? Please advise!
