Quality Over Convenience?

So I use to live in a nice city with a really nice hospital. I moved about 45 minutes away to the country/middle of nowhere. I have been seeing my doctor for almost 6 years when i first got on birth control, and now that i am expecting my first baby, i feel super comfortable with her and the hospital she delivers at. My MIL is always reminding me how "far" away it is, and if i go into labor "i might have the baby before i get there". Of course i know having your first baby after only laboring for 45 minutes is a slim to none chance.. but it just gets put in my head. I don't like the other hospital that's between here and there. I don't want to switch doctors. Am i crazy for wanting to drive the distance to stay feeling "at home" with my current doctor or do i need to consider switching?

My hospital was about 35 minutes away when I had my son and it was no problem. I labored at home for quite awhile before going in anyway. Just call the nurse when your contractions are closer together and they will advise you on when they think you should come in.

Youll be just fine as long as your not the one driving it My labors are fast first one was 2hrs 2mins and the second was 68 mins I made it to the hospital and it was about that long of a drive this time idk how far away it's gunna be but I hope I make it lol

I chose "she's right" but technically both answers are correct. You aren't crazy either. But you do need to think of what you're going to do when you do go into labor. Your doctor doesn't have any other location they work at? My doctors office works out of 2-3 different locations

I just moved across the state line from NJ to PA. It's about a 2 hour drive with traffic to my hospital. Unless there is an emergency, we're just going to leave a little earlier when it seems like my contradictions are steady and close. We moved when I was at 38 weeks and I was not going to stress about new doctors on top of moving.

The average first time mom pushes for two and a half hours. With that in mind, honestly, you could wait til you're pushing to go to the hospital lol 45 is not that long, most of the country is rural and that's an average drive to the hospital ☺just make sure you're not the one driving!

I work 5 days a week and plan on working until I go into labor. Odds are, I'll go into labor at work. My job is about an hour from the hospital I'll go to because I work 2 cities away from my home. I'm not worried, it'll take a lot longer to give birth than the drive. You'll be fine!

My doctor/hospital are about 50 minutes to an hour away, sometimes longer depending on traffic. There's a hospital 10 miles from me that I refuse to use. I love my doctor and have delivered with him before, you couldn't pay me enough to go to anyone else! My advice would be to stick with your gut!

Theres a hospital less than 5 minutes from my house, the doctors there are HORRIBLE, my first OB was the main OB at tthat hospital and he made me so uncomfortable, and wouldn't answer any of my questions, my new dr delivers at a hospital 30 minutes away, and i don't care, i'd rather drive 30 minutes and know me and my baby will be safe and cared for then to stay here, and like you pointed out, its not likely to have a baby in the first hour of labor

There are two hospitals "near" me. Both 40 minutes from my house in opposite directions. I don't have a choice and neither have the friends and family who delivered there. They were fine and didn't think twice about it. Stay where you're comfortable.

It should be fine! Just leave when your contractions are 7 minutes apart or so I'd say. (Confirm with your doctor how long lol) That should get you plenty of time to get there. 45 minutes really isn't that far! I live in a city now so my hospital is just a couple of minutes away in ideal traffic, but in my rural home county there's one small hospital in the very center of the county so people in the north, south, east and west ends drive 30 minutes or more to get there. And actually, a lot of them have starting going an hour further to a better hospital. 
Knowing how many first time mothers get induced today too, it's likely you will be so it wouldn't even matter how far you live in that scenario.
