Are footballers wages an affront to society?

Please give reasons as to why you think Yes/No/Other. I'm doing this for an essay and I think it will be interesting to see what women of different backgrounds and careers will think.

I'm not saying they shouldn't make a decent living.  I couldn't imagine how hard what they do is.  To me it looks like cute men running around in tights,  but I know it's a lifestyle commitment... the work they put in is pretty darn serious.  ...however we have people starving,  kids without access to health care or schooling.  Teachers making barely livable salaries and these are the people who are educating our youth.  The problem with franchises like the NFL is that the fans really fund it . It's like saying a pop star shouldn't make the amount of money they do..  as long as society is willing to buy 140 dollar jerseys and pay outrageous prices for seats then these players will continue to make Ludacris amounts of money!

I think it's sad that someone in the NFL makes more than those who risk their lives and help others who work in the military, police force, fire department and paramedic field. 
My husband can risk his life to protect our country but someone who doesn't even play makes millions of dollars a year. Where's the logic in that? 🤔

Football players get paid so much because of how much money the NFL makes off of tickets, merchandise, etc. The reality is most people in America are more likely to be willing to spend more money going to a football game than giving a donation to something like a school. It's a private business it's not like the federal government is directly paying the athletes so yes I beilive they deserve to make that much because of all the fans they bring in and the money they make for the company.

My husband and I talk about this a lot. The average NFL player will play for about 3 years. In that time they will have likely had at least one brain injury or physical injury. After that time they will have to change careers or have to ride out endorsements on their past accomplishments. 
   
If I only had 3 years to make my family money and that was the only training I really have ever been given, and would leave with health issues, I personally would want more money than some of them get paid.

That said I also think some get paid way to much but it is private money and has nothing to do with me, so 🤷‍♀️

I think that they should make decent livings, but not necessarily in the millions. Especially when TEACHERS deserve to make more. So do EMTs and other people who don't get paid as much as they do for jobs that actually affect society in a more meaningful way. But that's just my thought.

With the amount of taxes they have to pay, it's fine. My SO has paid nearly £2million in taxes. It's fucking crazy. If you earn a lot - trust me, you give a lot of it up in taxes which benefits all the people whining about how they don't make enough.

What do you mean by Footballers? I'm assuming "soccer" since that's rarely a term used for NFL players. Since we have people from various backgrounds on this app, it might be best to clarify in the headline since a lot of Americans are unfamiliar with the Prem and other professional football (soccer) leagues.

Overall, I have no issue with the wages for either sport. I do have an issue with the pay for the Women's national team players in the US, but that's another topic entirely.

I have to say though, I do think it's somewhat ridiculous how high the transfers have got for certain players. Garett Bale (makes sense) but Pogba? How is that guy worth *that* much? Every transfer window, it's like clubs are trying to break records for how much they can pay for a player.

My problem is more about the fact the football players makes as much as they do, but the cheerleaders make barely minimum wage. They're part of that franchise, they put in just as much practice and time and effort in, theyre given rules for every single aspect of their lives -on and off the field- from what they're allowed to talk about to what they're allowed to wear, and yet they get paid maybe $10 an hour. 
Either up the pay for the cheerleaders because they contribute just as much as the football players to the franchise, or bring the football player's pay down because honestly, why are they making millions playing a game?

I think the biggest thing here is that by playing football, most of these players are giving up their brains. Have you read the studies about what happens to the brain of a football player after the concussions they sustain? Their brains are mush... I think that the pay is a lot, but it also seems to compensate for a lifetime and compensation for their brains turning to yogurt. And that's just their brains! They sustain livelong debilitating injuries on other parts of their bodies as well.

I also think some players make a shit ton of money, but not all do. There are plenty of players who make a lot less than their famous counterparts.

That being said, I still think some of these players make way too much money

They should definitely be paid well. Being a professional in any sport comes with multiple sacrifices, and I don't think that that should be overlooked.

However, being paid millions is taking the piss.
