(Long) Do you ever wonder if you'll end up being the intolerant grandparent in the next generation?
Alright, all of this talk about transracial has gotten me a little freaked out for the future. Today I had a convo with my grandparents about it and we were saying, what if one day Transracial is an acceptable thing and all of us who didn't support it originally for whatever reason will be looked upon as the intolerant elderly group of our own current generation?
At first I said, we've got some of this stuff backed up by science now which helps. Studies/research have been done to give us proper info; we can now distinguish between sex and gender, etc. But then they brought up a good point. Back when THEY were younger, there was tons of ~research~ and ~biological~ studies/experiments conducted on LGBT ppl that fueled their homophobic/transphobic opinions and truly made them believe that they were correct.
It's got me thinking, way back then, very few ppl accepted gender as simply being a concept rather than something biological. But what if one day in the next 50 years the next generation decides to accept, say, race as a concept, (not the physical aspect obvi) and transracial truly becomes a widely supported thing. And then all of us who called Rachel Dozeal a phony and in general expressed our disinterest in supporting transracial end up being the intolerant grandparents of the generation. 🤔 Like, kids will go to school and be like, "OMG my grandma says transracial ppl aren't a thing! She's so racialphobic!" and then all the other kids gasp in horror.
I feel like I didn't really explain this well, sorry, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this if you have any. And I know that this probably won't happen in 50 years but I think it's an interesting thing to at least consider as I'm sure 50 years ago ppl didn't really expect so many ppl to be (thankfully) so tolerant nowadays.
