Boys like blue and girls like pink, right? These gender norms are rigid even before the birth of a child, as soon as gender is a fuzzy line on an ultrasound.
From that point forward, kids continue to learn how to be their gender through parental attitudes, school, friends, and mass media. Some sociologists use gender socialization as a way to explain why men and women behave differently: they learn different social roles.
