Do you sometimes wish that you had kids earlier in life?

Question

I often find myself wondering how my life would if I had the opportunity to have kids earlier. I wasn't able to: family hit hard by the recession, parent passed after protracted and painful illness (I was the care taker). Anyone else feel the same way?

I am 30 and pregnant with my first. I lost both my parents in my early 20s, had to finish grad school, had a tough time finding a job after the recession (I'm a teacher and no one was leaving!) and ultimately ended up raising my younger siblings. I am to a point where I have job security, own a home, am married and have maximized my salary. Honestly I'm so much better prepared in my 30s!

Yes totally my hubster was so cautious it was ages before he agreed to have a 2nd because he was worried about money now were 2 and a half years into trying and i wish we'd just done it straight after our 1st who is now 6. The bigger the gap grows the less close i think she will be with any siblings that come along. There was only 2yrs between me and my brothers and we are friends as well as siblings.... but there is no point in regrets cant change the situation now 🙁 x

Yes.  I was 31 and DH was 32 when we got married.  We got pregnant immediately after marriage, but I wish he hadn't drug his feet about getting married.  I was also pushing for the first kid and he acted like we had all the time in the world.  I wish I'd started TTC # 2 a lot earlier since it's been 4 months and we've had no luck so far.

Absolutely - and it's so refreshing to hear others acknowledge the role the recession has played in delaying starting a family. I finished a grad degree in economics in NYC when the recession hit and overnight the jobs that had been available for people with an MA dried up and suddenly required a PhD for the same job! So after years trying to get a job I liked and failing to, I went back to school for the PhD, in another state. So I basically started over in my 30s :(. We started TTC when I was 35 and it's been almost 3 years - age and stress are definitely factors. I don't necessarily wish I'd had kids sooner though - except for that I feel like I have less in common now with friends my age,  almost 100% of whom have kids.

My mom passed away in OcT and will never know this baby.
