BLM meetings only for black people?

Recently it has been reported that a BLM group in Philly has posted on their Facebook page that only black people are welcome to attend their meetings. They still will allow the support of other races in other ways, but the meetings are strictly for black people to "meet, strategize, and organize" according to the post. Do you think this approach is a good idea, bad idea, or do you have an alternative opinion?.. I'm not exactly sure what I think and would like to know how others think on this move.

I think it's a bad idea. When people want to be involved and help, let them. Excluding them from the meetings will just put a sour taste in some people's mouths and they won't want to be involved anymore. I don't see what they would hurt by being there anyway.

I think on the topic of "Black Lives Matter" those with Black Lives should definitely get the most say and it is everyone else's job to be an ALLY. Not tell them what to do.

I figured sharing the group's actual rationale would give people context to make better informed opinions on the matter

I think it makes sense. I sort of think everyone else needs to sit down for a minute and let them speak for themselves. If messages are only accepted when white people say them, then they aren't truly being accepted. We need to listen to their pain and hear them out. Not silence them with petty complaints. Just my thoughts.

I disagree with it. I think everyone should be involved. It creates a safe space that fosters unity and love. It's important that others are included. Some people aren't even aware of our struggles. People need to be educated and also learn the best way to help.

that's 100% fine. anyone who considers themselves an ally to those who are oppressed (BLM included) should know that movements are not about the allies, but the people who are disenfranchised.

Bad idea. It will be more likely those wanting to support and participate do so now that they're being excluded from meetings.

I don't have an issue with it and I understand why it has been changed to this sort of format. It should be respected and Alloes should focus on what they CAN do to support, rather than add to the issue. Time could be better spent strategizing and organizing as white and NBPOC (Non-Black People of Color) to figure out what they can do to support using their own platforms, and privileges. Appealing to the masses of their communities and even setting up a sibling chapter of allies specifically for ally work. Even if that just means teaching ppl how to be allies.
