No. I think it's hypocritical of Americans complain about foreigners coming to the US and getting free this free that and they go to another country and do the same. Stay your ass here and deal with it.

Most are unwilling to even learn our language when they hear they can study in Germany for free... THAT is what upsets me. My partner and I are moving this summer and we practice language daily. But seriously, the education should be granted to those with the pure intention to gain knowledge. Then again, knowledge doesn't really come from a school...

I do believe that this is already a thing. My bf who took German throughout high school looked into studying abroad in Germany. He eventually decided he would look into it when he was efficient in the language, as he did not want to fall behind in classes and while he does well with written German, he is slower with speech.

I think our prices are ridiculous, especially as many European countries provide better education than we do, and at a much cheaper cost for their students. Both exchange and resident.

It was funny when my mom's family were both offended and confused af when a distant cousin announced he would be moving with his pregnant German wife to Germany. They were like "but why we don't understand", "but how will you afford school", "but why not America". Poor gal is sitting there like "these people are idiots". You've got better maternity/paternity care and leave, you've got a country that takes hate speech seriously, they take education seriously, no one is graduating with piles of debt.

Free? I moved to the U.K. for my bachelors degree and it absolutely wasn't free. I paid in 3 years what I would have paid at a UC/CSU in 4. I never saved money, just time since the degree was focused on my major and I didn't have to complete any general education. Not to mention, I had to pay for my visa. I was lucky to get FAFSA loans though as only a small handful of universities in the U.K. actually accepted them.

From what I experienced, college/university is "free" for citizens of that country.

The kids going to school who grew up in the countries probably haven't paid taxes either since they've likely not worked much by the time they go to school.

You do have to prove you've got sufficient funds to live when you apply for the student visa, at least in Iceland or Norway. If you intend to work as part of those funds, you will be paying taxes on that income. Paying for housing and supplies and transportation and food also brings money into the country.

Plus, it seems like from the article, many of the people who study end up wanting to stay and work in the countries, thus they end up paying taxes anyway.

I don't agree with moving there JUST to get a free education, but if someone is moving there, planning on staying there after they receive their education, learn the language, and all that I kind of don't see hardly anything wrong with it. But I also don't live on those other countries so I don't know how that affects them.
