am I in the wrong??

So it is my little brothers communion on Sunday. He'll be 8 the end of June. We planned for my boyfriend coming up for it. He's also an atheist and so am I. I go to church every Sunday with the family just so I can be a good example for my brothers even though I hate going to the church and don't really participate in prayers or songs or anything I'm not even Baptized. The thing is my boyfriend is completely refusing to come Sunday now because he doesn't want to go to the church because it's something he doesn't believe in or want to go to. I'm just thinking of this as a supportive thing for my little brother. Am I in the wrong for being mad at him for it? I just wanted him to be there for my little brother in the end and not have the whole atheist thing get in the way of him spending time with my family for once.

I personally belive that a person can set aside their personal beliefs to support people they care for and love.

I know I would go to any type of ceremony that was important to someone I cared for.

I think it's amazing you're going and being supportive as a sister. Honestly though, your boyfriend doesn't have that commitment/relationship to your family like you do. I would tell him your honest feelings but he is entitled to his own feelings, too.

I don't think your overreacting.  If he really cared then he would but his beliefs aside and support you and your family.  It's not like you're asking him to pray and sing. All he would have to do is sit in the church

If you're ok with going to church to support your brother, that's great. Do I think you should be mad at your boyfriend for not wanting to go? No.

Talk to him, maybe you guys can compromise somehow. He might be willing to go for a bit to appease you.

Ultimately, if it's a deal breaker for you, tell him. He'll either give in to you or stand by his decision.

I don't think you should force your boyfriend to go. Sure you can be mad especially if he had already told you he would go then changed his mind. But just because he is your boyfriend doesn't mean he has to do something he doesn't believe in for you. Because he doesn't believe none of the ceremonies and things churches do really mean anything to him and aren't important to him. My boyfriend and I are also atheists. His family grew up catholic and once he told his mom he was an atheist she told him he didn't have to go with them to church anymore. You are asking him to be respectful of your families beliefs and go with you to church but trying to force him to go when he doesn't want to is not being respectful of his beliefs. He can be supportive of your brother without going to or participating in something he doesn't believe in or want to do.
