What makes you stay?

Question

When you and your partner have a serious disagreement, what makes you stay? I'm not talking about abuse or but arguments about sex, money, travel, etc.?

Answer

I've been with my husband almost 10 years. We have 3 small boys together. I love him more than anything and he's still get butterflies. BUT love is a choice. I wake up choosing to love him every day. Choosing to give him all of myself. Choosing to not sweat the small stuff and love him for who he is. Choosing to put our marriage first each and every day. We don't argue often. We do sometimes disagree. When we do have big arguments there is no question we will be fine. In my house Divorce is the ultimate swear word. Don't use it unless you plan on packing your bags and walking out.

If it's not going to matter a day from now, a week from now, a month from now, or a year from now, it's not worth breaking up over. We're adults. We talk through our issues and find ways to make things work. Daily we make the choice to be committed to each other. We are stronger than anything life can throw at us. Because we work and maintain that relationship with each other.

We are in love and in a serious, adult relationship. Leaving over an argument isn't an option for us. It would take something extremely substantial for us to end things.

It's just not an option to leave. Would you burn down your house cause you had a small leak?? No you'd just fix it and move on.

We agreed that divorce isn't an option. Nothing is to big that we fight about that can't be discussed and worked out. We are fighting to solve the issues and we do.

We just know we love each other and we are not going anywhere. So we work to resolve things and don't think about leaving.

Everything else. All the good times, the things that made me fall in love with him, and just the little things. I stop and think if the fight is worth losing him over and it never is, so we end the fight. We both realize fighting isn't worth it. When I was pregnant, we would fight constantly and very badly, too, but when we would calm down we didn't know what we were fighting about, except sometimes for each other, which were a few weird ones. Just remember when you fight or argue, the little things, the things that made you fall in love with him and the good times, you'll be okay.
