do you think it'll work out?

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I asked my boyfriend what his plans are for when the baby comes.. our lease is ending soon and he said we would spend the summer back "home". I was shocked.. Because I already considered our apartment our home. I asked him if we would be living together or apart when our baby arrives and he says he thinks it'll be best if we live our separate ways? Like with our parents. His reason being is because he isn't in a good financial state and wants to live life without feeling obligated to anything, and he says we clearly both know we can't do it without our families. But I have been independent for awhile now, he wants to move back in mainly because his sister is sick and feels obligated to accompany her? I always felt second to her not to mention she's raised him since he was young. I asked him if he's considered renting when the baby comes because I think it'll be healthier and better for our relationship and child after baby arrives.. but he keeps insisting we should live apart and he promises to visit or be there when I need him. I'm sort of confused with this, is this even normal?
