Colorado making convicted rapists pay victims expenses ?

Good for Colorado! But my problem with this is it shouldn't just be "convicted" rapists. Because many rapists don't get convicted. People don't realize just because you report it doesn't mean justice is guaranteed, but it also doesn't mean they're lying if their rapist isn't convicted. I think every state should do this though. Also I like to add in I am being billed I don't plan to pay, I shouldn't have to pay for a criminal crime committed against me. He needs to pay the bills and the crime, period.

If you disagree with all this I love to hear why because I can't make sense of that.

Well a conviction usually happens when there's enough evidence to prove it. I agree that only those who are convicted should pay. If not, guys who are falsley accused would have to pay too, and that's not fair.

I agree with you. Either the rapist should pay or the government should pay, it's absolutely LUDACRIS to expect a victim to pay to seek justice. What a disgusting thing.

Wow that's wild. $950? That's terrible if a victim would have to pay that. I thought maybe it was taken care of by the state.
 I can't imagine anyone wanting to do that for fun and waste it!

I see that perhaps they're trying to have some balance regarding payment... so a person cannot revenge harass someone they hate with a rape allegation and $950 bill automatically. 😕 Maybe that's why they require conviction.

Convicted, yes. I completely get that most rapists don't ever get convicted. But the problem is that it would be unconstitutional.  Our justice system says we are innocent until proven guilty. So it would go against that to be like "you're accused of rape? Pay up." That's not to say the victim themselves should have to pay out of pocket, either. I don't get why insurance doesn't pay for it.

I know there aren't many women who would claim to be raped if they weren't, but it does happen. There are some shitty women out there as well as men. And it wouldn't be fair for some innocent guy to have to pay $950 because  some girl just "said" he raped her. So yeah, while some rapists do go unpunished, it also wouldn't be fair for an innocent man to have to be labeled a rapist because of a crazy woman.
