Should you stop if you hit an animal on the road?

A man is looking for a green chevy that hit his dog. Saying it was a "hit and run" and the driver should pay for burial costs. His dog was on the road and the car hit it.

He should stop,  but at no cost to him for burial.  The owner should have had the dog on a leash or secured in their own yard.

If you hit a domestic animal you should definitely stop. It doesn't matter who's fault it is. The owner should be told immediately so they can take care of it. What if it didn't die right away and was suffering? What if other people kept running it over accidentally? I hit a chicken once and stopped to tell it's owners. I couldn't live with it just laying there in the road.

Technically, you should probably stop.  Legally, you don't have to, and you definitely aren't responsible for any costs. Owner should have kept his dog contained and out of the road.

Part of owning an animal is keeping it away from traffic. It's not the guy's responsibility to watch out for other people's animals. Also, a funeral for a dog? Somebody has too much money. There are people who can't afford funerals for loved ones.

If possible yes. Maybe the animal can't be saved but maybe it can. If it's a pet with a ID then even if the animal dies you can at least call the owner, animals like opossums can be females carrying babies who could be alive. Take responsibility and see if the animal is suffering, if it can be helped or needs to be put out of its misery. Let someone know you ran over their pet. It sucks to have to face the person but like I said, take responsibility.

Yes you should stop. Don't be a dick. It's the owners jobs to keep the dog off the road WELL SHIT HAPPENS HUH? Sometimes dogs/cats get loose escape ect.. just like sometimes you run to throw something away and your little 4 year old is outside the door. It's not the owners or the drivers fault. Just let them know. If you don't tell then or even slow down then just fuck you. Seriously.

In a neighborhood where it's possible you might be able to do something/find the owner, sure.

On a highway/busy street, nope.

It's not your fault the animal wasn't on a leash.
