Separating children

Yesterday, an Australian politician, Pauline Hanson suggested that special needs children should be segregated from regular classrooms.
I disagree with this completely, as I believe it is wrong to segregate people, however I see both sides of the argument. In 5th grade, I was placed in a classroom with a kid with high functioning autism. His support teacher would leave at 1:30 every day, so the last hour and a half of the day, he'd be screaming unless someone played with him. Every other student in the class would have to "babysit" him for 30 minutes. There was even a roster for it.
I don't think it'd benefit these kids, but it'd benefit other kids.
