Just got an iud

So I just had mirena inserted a few days ago, and they told me to come back in two weeks for a pelvic exam. However, they also told me to tell them if there were any problems with the string during intercourse if I were to have it. The problem is my mom is going to be in the room and I don't want her to know that my boyfriend and I are planning on having sex. We were intending on doing it between those two weeks. So if we do have sex in that time and I don't tell my doctor, basically what in asking is if they will be able to tell. I don't mean to sound naive, I just genuinely don't know because I've never gone through this experience before.
