A mother has bipolar disorder. If she stays on her medicine, she CANNOT breastfeed. While there is some danger to the fetus from this med the doctors have determined that the benefits of the meds outweigh the risks of coming off. (All scans point to perfectly healthy baby). Mom decides she needs to breastfeed and comes off her meds under the care of her doctors. She becomes uncontrollable in her angry outbursts towards family and friends. She cries constantly. Should she suck it up and keep on trucking towards breastfeeding, give up, go back on meds to keep herself calm, or realize she won't be a good mom to her baby because of her mental illness?
